JUSTIN ROBERTSON is about to release his solo album for Nuphonic, under the sub-heading of "Revtone".
The album kicks off with the old school Chicago house sound of "The Brightest Thing" before mixing in a live fell with influence from punk disco acts like ESG, Public Image Ltd and the Tom Tom Club. But that's not to say it's some retro pastiche.
"You can make records that are too authentic", believes Robertson, "but I try and make music that mashes the influences together in an organic way. There are a lot of newer influences like Carl Craig and Underground Resistance in there too. But it was mainly informed from trying to get back to the kind of dirty, jackin' Chicago sound. Punk-Funk-Techno-Disco."
With this new album, a dancefloor stomper (with album to follow) for Bugged Out! and a Byrds-style rock project with Tim Burgess (Yes really!!) he's continuing to inspire as much as be inspired.
The single "Brightest Thing" is out 24 September. The album "Justin Robertson presents Revtone" follows in October. Both on Nuphonic.

Justinova kariéra se začala psát na začátku 90.let, kdy se hodně popularizovala takzvaná ACID HOUSE CULTURE, která mu dala šanci vyniknout coby Dj a promotér. Jeho vlastní rezidentní noc v Manchesteru tenkrát nesla název MOST EXCELLENT NIGHT a setkávala se na ní celá řada vyjímečných postav současné taneční scény, jako třeba CHEMICAL BROTHERS nebo BJORK. Velmi podstatnou kapitolou jeho života je samozřejmě působení v kapele LIONROCK, která v roce 97´ dost výrazně přispěla k oživení hudebního dění nejen ve Velké Británii. LIONROCK mají na svém kontě zatím dvě alba, která velmi propracovaně proplouvají mnoha směry taneční kultury. Ta první z roku 96´s názvem AN INSTINCT FOR DETECTION se stala doslova trhákem ve Velké Británii a označení jako objev roku bylo další třešničkou na pomyslném dortu pro LIONROCK.
Pravidelné aktivity za gramofony se v současné době u Justina soustřeďují v klubech jako je CREAM v Liverpoolu, BACK TO BASICS v Leedsu nebo londýnských FABRICU či THE HEAVENLY SOCIAL. Navíc se výborně zapsal na prestižních festivalech typu GLASTONBURY, CREAMFIELDS a HOMELANDS.
